For the first time in its 69-year history, Disneyland will host a character experience based on an R-rated movie, with Ryan Reynolds‘ famed, foul-mouthed Deadpool character set to make his in-person debut at the park later this summer.
Three days before the blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters, Disney unveiled Tuesday morning that the Marvel character will appear at two of its global parks locations, beginning Friday at Disney California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif., and on July 24 at Disneyland Paris.
Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that the planned experience with the costumed character marks the first time a Disney park has hosted a live appearance from an R-rated film. Guests will be able to meet Deadpool at the Paris location, though the Disneyland Resort’s iteration will not feature a traditional meet-and-greet element, as it will be an entertainment appearance only.
“Even Deadpool can’t resist a Disney day!” read the announcement on the Disney Parks Instagram page. “Catch him for a limited time at Avengers Campus.”
In a follow-up comment, the account urged audiences, “Don’t miss #DeadpoolAndWolverine” in theaters later this week, and emphasized in a parenthetical addition that the film is “rated R.”
Images from the announcement tease Deadpool hopping around the California Adventure park, which first opened in 2001 as the Disneyland Resort’s second theme park.

Deadpool & Wolverine is in theaters Friday.
