OSU baseball vs UC Irvine Corvallis Regional final rain delayed till Monday

The Oregon State Beavers baseball team is now one win away from securing a trip to the NCAA super regionals.

Oregon State topped UC Irvine, 5-3, at Goss Stadium on Saturday to advance to the Corvallis Regional final. The Beavers got big performances from Travis Bazzana, Dallas Macias, and Jacob Kmatz that helped propel them past the Anteaters in front of a home crowd of 4,224.

The Beavers’ Corvallis Regional final against UC Irvine began at 6 p.m. Sunday but was suspended due to rain and will resume at 12:06 p.m. Monday.

OSU leads UC Irvine 6-4 and the game will resume in the bottom of the fourth inning Monday.

UC Irvine beat Tulane Sunday afternoon to earn a spot in the regional final and a rematch with the Beavers.

Bottom of the 4th inning — Oregon 6, UC Irvine 4 — Game suspended

Due to heavy rainfall in Corvallis, umpires have opted to suspend the game.

It will resume at 12:06 p.m. Monday in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Top of the 4th inning — Oregon State 6, UC Irvine 4

Micah McDowell cracked a leadoff single, and two batters later, Dallas Macias smoked a double to right field. But he slid past the second base bag and was tagged out. The out was still a productive one, though, as McDowell later scored from third on a wild pitch.

Bottom of the 3rd inning — Oregon State 5, UC Irvine 4

After a disastrous first inning, Oregon State starter Eric Segura seems to have settled in. For the second inning in a row, he held UC Irvine hitless.

Segura is at 68 pitches on the evening.

Top of the 3rd inning — Oregon State 5, UC Irvine 4

The Beavers loaded the bases for Travis Bazzana, but he popped out to left field to end the inning.

Bottom of the 2nd inning — Oregon State 5, UC Irvine 4

Eric Segura looked much sharper in the second inning and worked around a leadoff walk to produce a scoreless frame.

Top of the 2nd inning — Oregon State 5, UC Irvine 4

After a leadoff walk to Brady Kasper, opted to pull opener Nick Rincover. He threw a season-high 26 pitches. Rincover gave way to junior right-hander David Utagawa, who threw 2.0 scoreless innings against the Beavers on Saturday.

Utagawa issued a walk to Wilson Weber to put two on with nobody out. Then, Elijah Hainline stepped to the plate and clobbered a three-run homer to drag the Beavers back into contention.

After another pitching change, Travis Bazzana ambushed freshman lefty Ryder Brooks with a loud sacrifice fly to to plate Mason Guerra and tie the game at 4-4. Then, Gavin Turley followed with a double off the center field wall to put the Beavers back in front.

Brooks finally escaped the inning on a hard-hit Dallas Macias flyout to the right field warning track.

Bottom of the 1st inning — UC Irvine 4, Oregon State 0

Oregon State freshman starting pitcher Eric Segura had a nightmare start to the first postseason outing of his career. After a leadoff single from Woody Hadeen, Segura issued two straight walks to load the bases. Anthony Martinez got the Anteaters on the board with a groundout to second base to plate Hadeen.

Then, Dub Gleed launched a no-doubt, three-run homer into the right field bleachers to make it 4-0.
