Here’s how much New York airline ticket prices have increased
New Yorkers, be prepared when you book your holiday trips — airfare out of many New York airports is getting a lot more expensive.
Ticket prices have gone up compared to last year, sometimes by double-digit percentages, data sourced from a Bureau of Transportation statistics report shows. What you’ll spend depends on where you live.
Which airports saw the highest cost increases in NY?
Flights out of New York City area airports — John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International and LaGuardia — increased by about 20% on average, according to Smart Asset.
The cost of airfare at JFK and Newark ballooned by roughly 21% during the past year, putting them among the top 30 highest airfare increases measured by the data.

For example, in the first quarter of 2022, the average price of a plane ticket at JFK was reported at $349. The cost grew to about $424 in the first quarter of 2023, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics.

The average price of a plane ticket at Newark in the first quarter of 2022 was reported at $331, with the cost growing to about $400 in the first quarter of 2023.
Roughly 692,000 passengers used JFK in 2022 and nearly 850,000 passed through Newark, according to Smart Asset.

Here’s how much ticket prices at New York airports have increased as of Q1 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, using the most recently available federal data.
- JFK: The average domestic airline ticket price was $424.33, up from $349.85 in Q1 of 2022, a 21% jump.
- Newark (EWR): The average domestic airline ticket price was $400.49, up from $331.40 in Q1 of 2022, a 21% jump.
- Albany International (ALB): The average domestic airline ticket price was $430.72, up from $358.56 in Q1 of 2022, an 20% jump.
- LaGuardia (LGA): The average domestic airline ticket price was $325.76, up from $272.13 in Q1 of 2022, a 20% jump.
- New York Stewart International (SWF): The average domestic airline ticket price was $159.67, up from $137.28 in Q1 of 2022, a 16% jump.
- Syracuse Hancock International (SYR): The average domestic airline ticket price was $382.64, up from $333.46 in Q1 of 2022, a 15% jump.
- Buffalo Niagara International (BUF): The average domestic airline ticket price was $349.78, up from $310.61 in Q1 of 2022, a 13% jump.
- Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International (ROC): The average domestic airline ticket price was $377.25, up from $343.80 in Q1 of 2022, a 10% jump.
- Westchester County (HPN): The average domestic airline ticket price was $369.08, down from $380.21 in Q1 of 2022, a 10% decrease.
